Be The Change You Want To See‏

How do you get motivated for success?

I have had the opportunity to see quite a lot of trainer’s
and teacher’s in martial arts and fitness over the years and
surely i hear tons of stories from my dad as he’s been practicing
combatives and fitness for over 40 years!

The other day it popped up again with seeing a trainer trying to
help this client of theirs get fit while they lean against the side
and mumble some orders to the poor guy trying to get motivated.

I have always been taught by many great mentors to look out for
the life lessons that stand right in front of your eyes.

The lesson from this was that you need to be the example of what
the other person wants to be.

How can you expect the best out of someone else if there is no
excitement, flare or more importantly belief!

Just like the great Mahatma Ghandi once said, “Be the change you
want to see in the world.”

This famous quote means, don’t just say it… do it, live it,
breathe it, become it!

The important question is… How do you get motivated?

First of all you find inspiration! It will trigger off something
in you to make a change, that’s what i did over my years of training,
teaching and developing and continue to do so in my life.

When wanting to get in shape you need to find inspiration

I’ve always learnt that if you stop progressing you are just simply
existing and not living!

Don’t just exist and be a leaner, but rather live and be a winner
that takes control of their life and starts living it how they want
it to be.

5 Minute Abs

5 minute Abs

Recently I’ve been helping others burn that excess belly fat and start to achieve firm tights abs.

The thing is nowadays there are so many distractions for getting you in shape its crazy! But I still beat the drum in believing the workouts that have been used for many years back in time. I see it as, if it worked then it can work now.

Truth is you don’t need all the fancy equipment to burn your belly fat and flatten them up, but if that’s your thing, then more power to you.

I’m all about getting the most out of my time in anything I do. I would rather do 15 minutes of intense workout than 45 minutes coasting. With this I see better results in a shorter space of time which to me is a win in all areas.

I had one guy I taught that was very sceptical at the start as he had felt like he tried almost everything getting those rock solid abs he wanted.

So i agreed to help him out with some of my core routines and told him to give them a go just 5 minutes every day and see how he does. I told him that he can miss the odd day but try and stay consistent.

He was amazed by the results and in such a short time. Remember, it’s what you do with your time that counts!

Now I hear loads of times … and I mean loads! It’s the famous saying that people just do not have the time to get in shape even though they say how much they would love to.

If you have every felt what it feels like to be in tip top shape (great shape) you will know what a tremendous feeling it is. From there it makes you feel good inside and out, and your outlook on life becomes to feel positive from your career, with making better decisions to enjoying those special moments with your family.

All I am asking for is 5 minutes, can you spare that time for yourself? I think we all can – RHMF DVD

RH Martial Fitness in Swimming pool?

Don’t you just love a good swim?

Every week i try to get at least two lots of swimming sessions in. I feel at one with the water, but then again we are made up of a high percentage of water anyway so it makes sense.

I have a different approach though when i go for my swim to the average person. I tend start off with some lengths like most people but instead finish off with some of my own developed exercises in the pool.

People at the start do stop and stare to think has this man gone mad and what is he doing, but when they actually release that i am working out it soon puts there mind to rest, or you will get the odd person who says what are you doing?

It’s really what i call resistance exercising and it works a treat in the pool as the water pressure against your body cause the resistance.

Next time you are in the pool, have a go at this one.

1. Go to the shallower end of the pool if it has different levels and place your feet flat on the floor.

2. Bend the knees until your shoulders are underneath the water with your back upright and bring your arms out straight to either side.

3. Bring your arms together with palms facing each other, and bring back to start position.

4. Continue repeating at a good speed until you feel the burn in the upper body.

I have found this a great exercise for the upper body and before you know it you will be pumping out reps (repetitions) like never before!

The Massage

I recently visited a friend of mine who gives me my monthly massage. I try to go every month as i am extremely active with my martial arts, self defence and martial fitness teaching and training.

It’s a real must to look after our bodies as we only have one of them, so it’s a no brainer to invest in myself and my health.

Once i had led back and got myself into a state of (Mushin) which through the samurai way means a relaxed and empty mind state we continued.

While he was working a little on my legs and applying pressure we got in to discussion of muscle tension through the build up of everyday life stresses for people.

He went on to tell me that he finds most of the people who come to him mainly have the build up of tension in the body through stress and not releasing it in the right way which leads to most of the dreaded pains and injuries which occur.

He went on to say that people need to understand that they have to release the build up of negative energy in their bodies or the stress tension will build up to an amount of pure discomfort.

I told him how i help others get rid of the stress through the style of martial exercise i teach people.

You see it’s more than just an exercise to keep in shape or lose weight. It’s a way of life.

Creating A Winning Mindset

Replace negative thoughts with positive ones

You will never succeed in anything you do inless you replace the negative thoughts that come into your head with an incision of positive ones.

Basically speaking try not to look at things worse than it really is. For example: If you have started exercising and you feel you will never make it to your goal you want to achieve the odds are stacked up against you straight away when you think like that.

Rather try and look at the goal with more of a motivational role of, yes i understand that it is hard to achieve the goal which i am heading towards but aslong as i honestly give it my all i will eventually meet that goal.

“Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive results.” Willie Nelson

Know what you want

You must know what you want. All successful people in their lives know what they want. If you don’t know what you want the chances are you will be just going around in circles for a long time doing the same thing over and over with no growth at all.

Knowing what you want just takes a bit of time to sit down and write it out. For example: Know that you want to reduce stress from your life. Know that you want to lose a certain amount of weight. Know that you want to compete at a high level in a sport.

All of these above have an understanding of what you want to do, but you must remember to be specific on what you want. Being more specific gives you a clearer insight of what you actually want to achieve.

“Know what you want to do, hold the thought firmly, and do every day what should be done, and every sunset will see you that much nearer the goal.” Elbert Hubbard

Take Responsibility

Nows the time to take full responsibility for what you do. Try not to get into the blame game. It’s the easiest thing to do blaming others for why you are struggling and not succeeding.

Become a leader of your life by grabbing the bull by the horns and bring yourself to a new level which you never thought you could.

In the end you can’t possibly get anyone else to do the pushups for you to get the results. You need to do it yourself to see the results. Once you master this you will become more of a leader rather than a follower.

“Responsibility is the price of greatness.” Winston Churchill

Be Consistent

Lastly to the section of creating an everlasting winning steel proof mindset with a tenacious outlook on things you need to become consistent. With being consistent in whatever you do you will continue to grow as a person with raising the bar of success when need be.

Consistency is where the real winners are born. For example: It is easy enough to get in shape over a short period of time but maintaining it is the hardest part of all. Master consistency in your health and life and you will see the magnificent transformation in what you will become. Most of all enjoy the journey.

“For changes to be of any true value, they’ve got to be lasting and consistent.” Anthony Robbins

12 Commandments For Staying Motivated

Here you will find the 12 Commandments For Staying Motivated. (The RH Martial Way.)

1. Visualize your goal you want clearly
Visualization is an important part of totally understanding what you exactly want. It’s a very powerful process and will get you off to a great start when wanting to bring more exercise into your lifestyle.

2.Rinse out those negative doubtful thoughts and replace them with more positive ones.
Don’t let the negative thoughts come into your mind; it will just stop you from achieving what you really desire to lifestyle to be like.

3. Get involved with a friend
I strongly recommend this, especially when starting out with getting in shape. Exercising with a friend is a good way to get things rolling.

4. Get some top quality coaching and support
If you really want to learn to best way to get in shape and stay like it with improving your overall lifestyle, it’s a must to seek a mentor to help you through the journey of improving your fitness.

5. Try and find more inspiration on a daily basis to uplift you
There is inspiration everywhere you go. Books, magazines, videos and articles are the content type of inspiration. But not forgetting speaking to people who may have transformed their lifestyle and bodies from where they were to where they want to be.

6. Make sure you reward yourself for your efforts
Try to reward yourself often for your progression and wellbeing. Maybe go out to the local cinema with your partner or a new item of clothing, it’s really totally up to you.

7. Make exercising more of a pleasure
I have found over the years of training and teaching that variety of exercises really helps keep things fresh new and exciting. Try and find what works for you and most of all what you enjoy doing.

8. Stick to a well developed routine structure through the week
The idea of keeping to a well structured routine would be to keep you on track throughout the weeks and you know what to expect each day. This way it is easier to keep focused too.

9. Keep a note of your progression
As from when you first made the decision to really transform your body and get in fantastic shape and right up until you are months into the lifestyle changes you need to make sure that you write things down. i.e. Weight loss, distance of walking or running, hours of exercising per week and so on.

10. Don’t Overdo it at the start
Basically don’t burn yourself out! Especially right at the start, you will find that it is terribly off putting when your body is tired and drained from doing too much at the start. I would rather you take nice gentle steps over a period of time. Start of easy and then raise the bar of difficulty as time goes on.

11. Try not to miss too many consecutive days
I find when people have longer breaks away from their usual weekly routine it is hard to get things back to normal and it effects your rhythm of progression.

12. Don’t wait any longer, just get started!
Okay, so all of the above is great and if you can take away a few good points from them and fit them into your lifestyle, brilliant. But the most important thing of all is to start now and take action. You can have all of the knowledge in the world but if you do not put it into practice now the chances are you never will. The question you need to ask yourself is what are you waiting for?

To your Success,

Richard Huntley
