Judo Pushup A.K.A Hindu Pushups

Hi Richard here! Wow before we dive into some cool Judo Pushups and Hindu Pushups just got back from teaching over 400 kids at a school event. It was a great atmosphere as me and my team were doing some demonstrations and interacting with everyone. The kids we talked were great, and most of all is the energy that the children bring you is amazing.

It’s a must to give and make sure we keep our karma pot topped up always. The more you give the more you receive the laws of attraction. (But that’s a whole new post in itself!)

So one of the most common exercises you will see being done all around the world would be the standard pushup. All people who are involved in a physical combative job or physical activity will know the basic variation of the push-up.

Well today it’s a little different as I like to mix things up and keep things fresh and exciting to incorporate in your fit lifestyle.

Introducing The Judo Pushup aka Hindu Pushups

hindu pushupsSo with my martial art background I have learnt huge amounts of different bodyweight exercises which can literally be done anywhere and that’s the real beauty of it bodyweight exercise.

One of my personal favourite push-up variations which is is a must to bring into your arsenal of fitness routines is the judo pushup. It’s also known as the Hindu push ups style in other parts of the world but as I’m martial artist I stick to the judo pushup.

The main thing is you can call it whatever, but it brings great results if done correctly.

So the question is why are these style of push-ups so good? Well the answer is quite easy really and I could write quite a long list of benefits but I’ll keep it short and sweet.

First you don’t need any equipment, which will save you having to spend out money on fancy equipment that in the end gathers dust. (I’m sure you’re nodding your head reading this.)

Another great benefit of the judo push-up is it can be done anywhere. It doesn’t matter whether you’re outside or indoors, at home or travelling away in a hotel it can be done anywhere with little space too.

Now the beauty of the exercise is that it’s good for beginners and advanced people.

The How-To Method

First of all start off with the hands faced flat on the floor with your feet placed outwards shoulder width apart.

Next you will bend your arms down just like a regular push-up but in a moving forward motion, and once completed as far as you can go forward you then return in the same motion going backwards.

So I thought it would be easier to show you a video demonstration of some old footage where this exercise is taking place. The actual pushup will be played around the half way mark, and as you can see these old school japanese judo guy’s didn’t play around at all!

The style of training was intense, and you will hear how they have to pump up out 600 judo pushups a day!

(Pretty interesting how they used to train their bodies back then.)

The main areas which this exercise targets would be the upper body including mainly chest and triceps, but also it would really work the entire body as you are using a full range of motion rather than just up and down like a standard pushup.

So with the ladies wanting to tighten up those bingo wings as they call it this is a definite exercise for you, to get that nice tight shaped toned arms. (Not bulkly though don’t worry!)

Once you have pumped out 10 repetitions and then had a 15 second break and repeat again for three or four times you will soon start to feel the arms working hard to get the toning effect.

Hope i have given you a good insight into the judo push aka hindu pushups.

All the best
