I feel there are 3 main parts of the martial way lifestyle. Keeping yourself fit and healthy for longevity, being able to protect yourself and your loved ones, and lastly creating that strong striving for success mindset.

I filmed this a while back and decided to share it with my loyal followers, which will give you a little insight on learning how to protect yourself in a physical situation using a method which I have learnt over the years.

All the best,

<img src= http://www.rhmartialfitness.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/self-defence.jpg Here are some Must Read top tips to keeping yourself safe on the streets.

Self Awareness

This is the actual first step before even getting involved in any type of physical situation or confrontation.
If you really start to actually understand the way of good awareness you are a less higher target to be stuck in a sticky situation as you will not be so vulnerable for muggers, rapist’s or attacker’s.

What I am surely not saying is for you to start walking around like a ninja looking over your shoulder every so many seconds, but rather just understand more what’s around you and make effective decisions.

A big factor really is just use your common sense a bit more, which some people tend not to do so much and find themselves in a physical situation.

So basically don’t walk around on your own at night as your an easy target and rather stay within a group of friends until you are home.

I do teach self defence to a lot of people from ladies Rape Safe to basic understanding of self defence workshops. I would have to say that self awareness is just as important as learning how to deal with a physical attack.

Learn Effective strikes

This is the part I love teaching to people. It is really learning and understanding where to strike and how to generate most power in each strike which makes them effective.

I have people that are amazed with how hard they can actually hit! You see they really do not think they have it in them, but with a few tweaks and pointers here and there they are doubling and sometime tripling the power of their strikes within a short time working with me.

The importance of power strikes is great and I would rather have a powerful effective strike than a strike with no power, but you still need to know where to actually hit.

One of mine and my father’s mentors from Japan is Soke Fumon Tanaka. He is an amazing man with such fantastic precision and great accuracy on where to exactly hit someone.

Now I can tell you from past experience with him, it really works! But the techniques that he shows are not fancy ones at all, especially the striking techniques.

He just explains that along as it does the job there are no problems. You need to remember that these strikes had to work as his samurai ancestors tried and tested them on the battlefields of Japan and of course lost their lives in some cases.

So I won’t go on and bore you with a long history lesson about the samurai, but just speaking about them now gives me a buzz of excitement as I will say that they are amazing practitioners who I admire a lot.

Learn Practical Realistic Escapes

So we now have an understanding that you need to have strikes as an effective part of self defence but alongside that you need to know an understanding of how to escape. This can be from wrist grabs, headlocks; throat grabs rape situations on the ground and so on.

It is just as important to learn the escapes as learning how to strike efficiently as they really do go hand in hand with each other.

I teach rather than using strength to escape, use good technique and leverage. If you rely on strength you will always lose against a stronger opponent.

To me knowledge is so much more powerful than brute strength. But it’s putting the knowledge into practice that is important.

Practice what you learn

So here we are at the final part of keeping yourself safe on the streets.

The last part is to practice what you learn. If you don’t practice what you learn the chances are you will forget within a couple of months learning.

My advice would be finding a mentor to help you who has good experience in this area. Not someone who’s just going to take your money and show to some fancy moves. You need someone who has a very realistic approach and a good way of putting things over so you clearly understand what you are learning.

I feel it’s important to invest in yourself as there is only one of you. You need to look after yourself!

How I teach people with self defence is to learn the techniques break them down so you fully understand the mecanics of what is actually happening and what you are doing them move on the stage of pressure testing it.

The reason why I get people to pressure test is because you need to feel what happens so you become more adjusted to a real life situation.

A good tip I will give you is not to keep what you learn to yourself but share with others around you like your loved ones and friends.

The more people who know how to look after themselves the better it will be.

All in all it really gives me a great satisfaction on teaching people how to look after themselves and their loved ones in keeping safe on the streets.

It’s a real must you learn at least the basics of self defence to keep you and your loved ones safe.
Over the next few weeks you will hear me saying a lot more about what I have lined up for people wanting to get and keep themselves fit and in shape plus be able to look after themselves and most of all be happy! Look out for it!

I hope the article has given you a good insight on what steps you need to take to be able to look after yourself and your loved ones.

All the best,
